Wishing Away the Moments

Contributing Writer: Virginia Davidson from Geeky and Sassy

Wishing away the 70 degree weather in hopes of the 40’s and 50’s to come I am reminded how short-lived my desires can be. My discontentment in the weather may be a picture of my dissatisfaction with life at times.

When I start focusing inward rather than outward (to others and the bigger picture) and upward (to God most importantly) I wish away the moments. The dirty diapers and toddler squabbles make me wish for my kids to grow up faster. The tight budget makes me wish for more money rather than focus on the blessings God has given me. The difficult moments of life can make us wish away exactly the moments we were made to praise God and bring others to Him.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. ~ Galatians 5:22,23 NIV
I have to ask myself if I’m truly living the life God has for me if I’m questioning timing or I’m waiting for the “next big thing” to happen in my life. If I’m living like that I’m not allow Jesus to rule in my life.
Patience & Peace are needed in the moments of life when we’re not sure what tomorrow holds. These are a few of the fruits of the Spirit (if you’re a new follower of Jesus, it just means after you give your life to Jesus and trust in Him for your salvation you are given the Holy Spirit to be with you here on earth….check out the end of Luke & the beginning of Acts).
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. ~ James 4:14 NIV
Living in anxiety over the future is not good either. I want to have an eternal impact in the lives of those around me. Not worrying, but enjoying the big and little moments. The dirty diaper moments can be spent loving on our kids showing them God’s love.
The change of seasons can be a reminder of God’s amazing creation.
Let us open our eyes to the God moments around us. Let us pray today that God uses us for His plan and Glory. Let us pray together for the self-control and discipline to not complain away these days.

Have you heard of the story of the boy who wished he could fast forward time? An old woman gave him a ball of string and every time he pulled it, he could make time go by faster. He was very impatient and pulled it often. Soon his life was gone and he was old. Many of his friends and loved ones had died and he realized what he had done. He couldn’t enjoy the moment because he kept thinking about what was going to happen next. He wished he could go back to when he was a boy before the woman gave him the magic string. That story reminds me to enjoy what I have right now because I know that even without a magic ball of string, life goes by Way Too Fast. Thanks for sharing at Mom’s Library!
