I am one of those people who hates to take medicine. I know it’s in my blood, my father is the same way. Though I think I am not extreme in my thinking especially when it comes to my kids. Even though I see doctors sometimes I like to try a few natural and simple effective remedies before I make an appointment.
I have tried all of the remedies below. I am not a herbalist or a doctor so consult your doctor if throat irritation still persist. Find a good warm temperature for your kids to enjoy their hot drinks below.
1. Honey and Lemon hot drink.
All you need is juice from a lemon, hot water and 2 tablespoons of honey.
2. Lemon Ginger and Mint Tea
4 slices of lemon, 2 cm pc. of ginger handful of mint, 2 cinnamon sticks and boil for 5 min. Sweeten with honey. Image and recipe is from a Wooden Nest.
3. Sore Throat Sucker Soothers Recipe
This recipe is easy to make, but you do need to make sure it reaches the right temperature. Otherwise it won’t harden when you put them in molds.
Note: this recipe uses honey and babies under age one should not consume honey.
You can also change-up the flavors: mint, cinnamon…
Awesome!! Our family has been hit with sore throats.. I am definately going to make these for the kiddos to soothe their throats. Thanks so much for posting!!
Kristina,
Yay, I love to hear when a post hits the spot in your life :). Thanks for sharing! ~Mari
What kind of ginger did you use? Fresh, powdered, …? Where did you get it?
Hi Kristi,
I used grated fresh ginger but you can also use the powdered stuff.
Just finished a bad bout of strep throat. These will be wonderful if that happens again.
Can I use cinnamon instead of ginger?
Jess, Yes, that should work. I haven’t tried that combo but let me know how it taste.
I have been following your web site for a while, but
until now I made a decision to type at the very least a hey there.
How long until these expire?
April, I’m not sure as we didn’t make very many and they were eaten by the end of the week.
