When I used to teach preschoolers back in the day, this is one of the activities I did with them. They loved it! My son loved it! I’ve left his tree up because we turned it into an educational letter learning activity and wrote the letters he’s been learning on them. I’ll share the fun song and activity with you below but first we’ll learn how to make the tree.
Fall Leaves Letter Learning Activity
Supplies to make tree:
- contact paper
- leaves
- brown tissue paper
1. My leaves are fabric so they easily came off and we could stick them back up for our letter learning activity. You can also use foam paper or laminated leaves if you’re wanting to take them off and put them back on.
2. Cut small squares of brown tissue paper. They have your child place them on the contact paper (tissue paper will not come off without tearing). My contact paper had squares so this made it easy for my son to know where to place his tissue paper. I helped direct him so our tree wouldn’t end up being one giant brown blob since my hope was to use it throughout our fall learning lessons.
3. Add the leaves and you’re done!
Fall Leaves Letter Learning Activity
On each leaf write a different letter (or number, colors) and then call it out and have him find it on the tree. He can then take the leaf off and have it fall down.
You can sing this song and have them take the down the leaf with letter you call out. :
Autumn Leaves are Falling Down (sung to London Bridge is Falling Down)
Autumn leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down (repeat)
Now the letter F is falling down, falling down…
Now the letter A is falling down, falling down…
And so on…
