Gratitude Family Game & Activity

gratitude family game

This game is like Headbanz but with a Thanksgiving twist to it. We are kicking off our focus on all things gratitude today.  We started off the morning by baking muffins for the Sunday school teachers at church and tonight we’ll play this game where we can practice gratitude and also have fun together.

I thought I’d share the fun with you all so you can also enjoy it, each day at dinner with the family. Update 11/24 (2 days into this activity:  Our kids LOVE it and it’s been so fun to just laugh with my kids.)  I came up with this idea because I was a slacker this  year and couldn’t get my bootay into gear to do our 21 Days of Gratitude project that we’ve always done as a family.  But I must say I have enjoyed this one week of focusing on gratitude and enjoying my family and their silliness.

Gratitude Family Game & Activity

Supplies

  • paper plate
  • construction paper cut out in shape of feathers
  • markers
  • headbands you can use the ones that come with the Headbanz game

Make your paper plate turkey by cutting the paper plate in half.  Then color the ends in different colors and draw in the face.

Each day have the family will write down one thing they are thankful for on a colored piece of feather shaped paper. Once it’s in a pile ask each family member to pick up a feather from the piel but not to look at it.

Then place it on the front of the turkey on their forehead.

Start the game by setting the timer for one minute.

The person who starts you off will ask the following type of questions in order to figure out what the answer on the feather that’s on their forehead:

Am I a person? Am I a place? Am I a thing? Am I bigger than a fork?   The rest of the family can ONLY answer yes or no.  We gave the younger ones hints after their 2nd round of it.

If they don’t get it after the minute is up then they have the next round or the next to figure it out.  At the end of the game you can staple the feather to your turkey. So by the end of the week we’ll have lots of feathers on our turkey with the things we are thankful for written on them.

This would also be fun to enjoy for your Thanksgiving gathering. Have the kids color the turkey paper plate and then you can use it for this game.

We used our Headbanz game set stuff but if you don’t own Headbanz just glue a strip of paper to the back of your turkey and wear it around your head.
