Am I enough?
As women, this question haunts us every now and then. We ask this question of ourselves, from our boss, our spouse, our boyfriend, our parents, our friends, our teacher…
But who knew that when I became a mother I would live with this question every single day of my life. Am I a good enough mom? Am I doing enough?
But today, there are–
no, what ifs…
What if I had gone to college. What if I had not screamed at him. What if I had finished and submitted that project. What if I had not met him.
No, if only I…
If only I was more patient. If only I could lose more weight. If only I could get more time in my day. If only he would stop whining. If only I got paid more. If only I would cook from scratch more. If only I would spend more time with them.
No, buts…
No, but I don’t have time. But I don’t have money. But I don’t have the right clothes. But I don’t have the right job. But I don’t have the right education.
But not today.
NO, NO, NO, not today.
Today, I will look in the mirror and say with confidence,
I am enough. I am good enough.
I am a good enough mom. I am a good enough lawyer. I am a good enough wife. I am a good enough teacher. I am a good enough doctor. I am a good enough counselor. I am a good enough blogger. Whatever it is you have self-doubt about yourself, so, just fill in the blank–I am a good enough _______.
This doesn’t mean you have to stop challenging yourself to be a better person. It just means that you are stopping and taking a moment to celebrate what you’ve done. And not looking back and regretting what you wish you would’ve done.
Take a moment to celebrate all that you’ve accomplished. To celebrate you!
Today, I am enough. Tomorrow, yup, even tomorrow– I am enough. When I start believing the lies about who I am, I will stop myself. I will say out loud, I am enough.
Why? Because God made me good enough. He says in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you.” But it doesn’t stop there, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1. So stop condemning yourself for something you didn’t do, or shouldn’t have done. Because the reality is He died for that very thing. Because He died our sins–Ephesians 2:8-9. Repeat these verse out loud, believe me it helps.
What do you do to remind yourself that you are enough?
