Simple Idea for Grocery Shopping with Kids

grocery shopping with kids

I used to dream of going to Paris and gawking at amazing art while taking breaks and enjoying amazing french cuisine in between my museum visits and kissing my  husband under the Eiffel tower or weekend away in the mountains while soaking in a hot tub but then I had kids. Now I dream of going to the grocery store alone and standing in front of the magazine racks flipping through fashion magazines, sitting in my car enjoying a snack alone before I head home.  Yes, this is what I equate a vacation to now.

I’m partly exaggerating but not really. Since, I don’t have a live in maid or nanny that I can just leave my children with at any given moment, my kids come with me when I go grocery shopping. So I’ve come up with this fun way for my littles to help me with grocery shopping.

Not only will this give your kids something productive to do by helping you with grocery shopping but it can be used as an awesome way to remember to buy those Box Top items so you can collect the points your school is needing to get their musical instruments, text books or what not.

So, here’s my simple Idea for Grocery Shopping with Kids!

Grocery Shopping Ring

Supplies:

  • A ring or string
  • label or box of the products you purchase
  • scissors

Take your products and cut them down to a reasonable size.  Then you’ll hole punch one end and run a ring or string through them so your kids can walk around with it in the grocery store.

Once it’s set hand it to your child and ask them to find these products in the store. Depending on the age of your child they may need more guidance from you.

This is a great way to keep those little hands and feet busy.  The hard part about purchasing Box Tops is remembering the right products to buy so you can place on this key ring the products that are Box Top friendly so you’ll purchase them and rack up points for your school. If you’re helping your school collect Box Tops I have a really cute printable here that you can use.

The girls had a fun time shopping at Walmart for Box Top products using their Grocery Shopping Ring! Walmart Bonus Box Tops offers extra Points on select General Mills® products! Go here to download a list of the participating Box Top products.
