I had so much fun putting together our Wacky Family Dinner today. As you may know, today is April Fools Day. I have always been a little prankster, I could sit down for hours with you and share all of my fun prankster stories from college. But once I became mom that side of me got buried under all of the dirty laundry. Which is not a bad thing in some way cause prankster mom can quickly get annoying.
Well, prankster mom comes out once a year for sure, on April Fools Day. I decided to call it Wacky Family Dinner!
This is what I did for our Wacky Family Dinner. I told our kids that no complaining was allowed. That they could eat dessert first if they wanted and that we would have breakfast for dinner. I really thought they would’ve all chosen dessert first but only two of them chose dessert first.
I really got them by adding real bacon to their fake breakfast. So our sunny side up eggs are actually yogurt and peaches. But the bacon is for real.
This was our faux dessert. It’s actually our main course Meatloaf Cupcakes with mashed potatoes for the frosting. I used a real cherry to place it on top and trick them. On this one, I didn’t trick my oldest but the other boys were fooled.
Their “apple juice” was jello in a cup!
Well, this day was about to come to an end and I hadn’t April Fooled my husband so I was bummed. I mean really it’s not hard to prank a 3, 7 and 10 year old. But I was racking my brain trying to figure out how to prank him and as I was cleaning up dinner and putting the mash potatoes in tupperware, it clicked.
I made him a fake shake. I whipped some sour cream to put on top so it had a smooth white look and I topped it with crushed oreos and reese’s pieces. I brought it up to him and he asked, “Should I be worried?” I didn’t answer and he took a huge bite and immediately spit it out. I laughed so loud my kids all got up and asked, “How did you get daddy?”
I can now go to bed with a huge smile on my face. I got my husband for April Fools day!
