I Can’t Believe I Did This for Father’s Day

I can’t believe I actually did this for Father’s day: Daddy’s Little Monster Breakfast. All of you, who know me or have followed along this blog-zine know that I love a good party but I especially love a good theme.  With a good theme, I can conquer the world. Well, last year I think I got carried away with my theme, as we prepared for Father’s day.

worst father's day ever

It started off with the author, Josie Bissett, of the Tickle Monster book. She shared a signed copy of her book with one of my readers around Father’s day.  Well from the minute I saw the cover of this book I was inspired. The colors were perfect for a party but not just any old event, a Father’s Day Breakfast. The “Monster” theme was easy and versatile to come up with decorations and activities. And believe me I came up with decorations and activities. So it was set,  we were having a Monster Father’s Day theme breakfast with activities and all.

Yes, you read it correctly I threw a Monster theme Father’s day party for my HUSBAND.

God only knows there was no stopping me. I look back now and I can laugh at how ridiculous this sounds. But at the time I was lost in my whirlwind of ideas. I personally thought it was a fabulous way to celebrate the father of my children.

My kids love to be tickled or anything else to delay their bedtime  and my husband loves  playing I mean tucking them in bed so you see why in my mind this was the perfect gift for my husband.  Click on picture to preview book.

Doesn’t it make you want to throw  a Father’s day theme breakfast?

Come on I know admit that it does. Who’s got my back on this?

Go ahead and laugh at me or better yet send this to your husband and let him know how lucky he is that you didn’t do this. Don’t worry I won’t get upset, I can laugh at myself now that I look back.

This is what we did and I so proudly shared in another post back in June of last year. The BLUE writing are my thoughts on this lovely event, now looking back on it.

The Adventure:

Breakfast in Bed for Daddy:

  • I added googly eyes to everything! To the fruit, smoothie, egg and ham sandwiches…! Make sure the eyes are removed before they eat the snack. Or you can make edible eyes using banana slices and raisins and stick them on a PB &J sandwich. Use apple slices for the mouth. You can also use Marshmallows and edible markers to make the eyes I did on the smoothie pictured above.
  • Not so healthy snacks – Add blue food coloring to your tub of vanilla frosting and cover a cookie with it. Add eyes using banana slices and raisins or marshmallows and chocolate chips.

Not only did dad have to eat food with googly eyes he also had to play monster games.

Games the kids and dad will enjoy:

  • Play pin the eyes on the monster. Just make a monster from poster board and add eyes to it for the kids to pin.
  • Make play doh monsters. Place pipe cleaners, googly eyes, Mr. Potato body parts out and let them have fun creating their own tickle monster.
  • Sit in a circle and play “Tickle, Tickle, MONSTER!” Same thing as duck, duck goose but when you get to Monster the Monster runs around and chases you and when you sit they tickle you!

Crafts:

Yup, my kids had on matching Daddy’s little monster shirts. The only thing I regret is not making my husband a matching shirt that said, “My 3 Little Monsters”, ba ha, ha, ha.

  • Blow up balloons and draw monster faces on them.
  • Make your own Special Tickle monster Glove using an existing glove and yarn.
  • We also made some fun “Daddy’s Little Monsters” t-shirts using freezer paper to wear on Father’s day. See our Father’s day room service printable here.

Yes, my husband is a saint to have gone along with all of this, for the sake of his crazy party planning wife and his children. Honestly, I think Daddy’s Little Monster’s was a cute theme but I went overboard. You think.

I have absolutely no idea what I am doing this year for Father’s day but be rest assured it will not entail monster fruit and shakes or matching shirt for my boys that say, “Daddy’s Little Monster”.
