A One of a Kind Children’s Christmas Book Story & Owl Ornament

I love this great little Christmas Books for kids! Below I share our Owl ornament to go with our cute book!

One of the things we enjoy doing as a family is going on walks in our neighborhood. When it’s winter we usually go before dinner because after dinner it’s too dark and cold. So on our last walk we collected pine cones. My boys love collecting things on our walks. I usually don’t let them bring their collections home but since I had this project, to their surprise we kept them.

This is what we made one year with our nature hike collections. We named our pine cone craft owl Cheddar. He was the best pet ever!

Every year we make at least one ornament for our tree. It’s not really a tradition but I guess it can be since we’ve been doing it for years.

So we are going to make a cute owl ornaments to go with our book!

Children’s Christmas Book & Owl Ornament

supplies:

  • pine cone
  • red felt or a babies red sock
  • ribbon
  • glue
  • construction paper

  1. Cut out 2 circles on tan paper and 2 smaller circles on white paper for the eyes.
  2. Then make the beak with an orange piece of construction paper.
  3. Glue them together on the pine cone. I used a hot glue gun to glue them to the pine cone.
  4. Take your red felt and place it over the top of the pine cone and glue it. This is the hat.

I used an ornament hanger wire and ran it through the red hat to place on our tree!

The book is the Christmas Owl by Angela Muse it’s about the power of giving back and being grateful for what has been given to you is definitely something I want my son to learn. The pictures are beautiful and the values it teaches are timely for this season when we are tempted to become focused on ourselves.
