You won’t believe the main ingredient used for this awesome frosting recipe? A few months back I randomly saw a recipe that said it used shortening instead of butter, it didn’t sound appetizing.
I tried this recipe for some cupcakes I needed for my story time activity for the book “If You Give a Cat a Cupcake.” Over the summer our family volunteered to do story time in a low-income area and today was our grand finale.
The perfect way to end was with this book and some yummy cupcakes. I can’t wait to show you some of our fun activities we did this summer with children books.
Here’s my son devouring his cupcake!
The Best Frosting Ever
- 2 cups shortening
- 7-8 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 6-8 ounces of heavy cream
1. Cream the shortening with a mixer.
2. Slowly add the powdered sugar 1 cup at a time.
3. Add in the vanilla and heavy cream.
If you need it to be thicker add more powdered sugar or if you need it to be softer use more heavy cream.
Note: I wanted my frosting to be colorful so I mixed in blue food coloring if you just want plain vanilla then make sure you use clean vanilla extract so your frosting stays creamy white.
They also held up. They were out for about 2.5 hours before we enjoyed them and they held their form.
