A friend recently shared with me how this preschool homeschool can seem overwhelming so I thought I would share with you how our days play out so you don’t think that I spend my whole day playing and teaching my son. Though it would be wonderful to have that kind of time on my hands, I don’t–so we split up our day like this:
Daily schedule (Note: our days and times vary depending on the activity and what we have going on).
Morning time between 9:00 a.m.-12 p.m.
Circle time – This is where I review all the stuff we learned: number, letter, color, shape.. I do weather, calendar, verse… (I do this with all 3 boys and then Mateo goes and has free play while I go more into depth on money and numbers with my older ones.
- Free play time
- Alphabet & Number activity 10-15 minutes guided by me. Then I let him continue exploring and playing with the activities if he wishes to do so on his own or he goes to free play.
- Free play
- Snack time
- Free play time
- Gross & Fine Motor Skills through Music, Art and/or Movement about 15 minutes guided by me and if he wants to continue exploring and playing on his own he can.
Afternoon time 1-2:30
- Social Studies/Science – 10-15 minutes
- Free play time
- Spanish – 10 minutes
- Free play time
- Nap time by 3 p.m.
Somewhere in our day during one of his free times we have reading snuggle time with me or with one of his brothers. Which helps his brothers connect with him throughout the day and they get to practice their reading skills.
As you can see we are spending about 50 minutes to an hours a day working on school. I purposely, have it spread out in small increments of time. If you don’t have all day to split up your activities find what works best for you. Since I homeschool two other boys, this is perfect for me to split up his activities throughout our whole day giving him something to look forward to in small increments of time.
Alright this week we are centering our activities around Flowers Trees & Seeds Activities for Preschoolers! I’ve been so excited for this lesson because last year I picked out Apologia Botany for my older boys science and I had already had some fun gardening activities planned for them and now we can integrate some of their stuff into Mateo’s day.
Flowers & Seeds Activities for Preschoolers
Literacy: Letter & Number of the Week: Letter B, Number 1
Letter B – Track printable – Mateo ran his car across the letter B and number 1 every day before we started our activities. I share about this in our first week of preschool here.
Alphabet Dig – Place dirt inside a bin and then add the letters you’ve been studying. If you want to make it a bit more challenging add some other letters that you haven’t studied.
Alphabet Flower Sort – With this activity I had him dig through and find the letters in the dirt bin. Each flower had a letter on it and he had to find those in the dirt and sort them into the correct pot.
Another variation you can add to the Alphabet Flower Sort is have them take out all the letters they sorted and line them up and count them or tell you what the letters are. If they are older have them make patterns with the letters.
For fine motor skill development have them use some kid tweezers or tongs to pick up the letters and drop them in the pot.
Q Tip Letter Painting – We used these FREE printables found over on 1 + 1 + 1=1 blog. Mateo LOVED it! It helps with letter identification and getting ready for writing.
Math:
Counting Basketball stickers and placing them on the letter B – Roll the dice and see how many stickers you need to put on the letter B. Let him count the dots on the dice.
Counting Flowers Planted Activity – I didn’t take a picture of this but I taped a flower on a popsicle stick and then we would roll the dice to see how many flowers he needed to plant in his flower pots.
Counting Petals on the Flower Activity– Here I cut out petals and then I filled in the middle with the number of petals he needed to add to the flower.

Social Studies/Science:
Plant a Garden – Find an area in your yard where you can start a garden and plant some seeds. I can’t wait to show you pictures of our garden all done.
Nature Color Hunt – Go on a nature color hunt.
Watermelon Seed Counting – Cut the watermelon and then count the seeds. Next week, we’ll place the seeds on a paper watermelon.
Make a fairy or gnome garden. We never got around to making this but it’s on our list to do for science since our older boys are studying botany this school year.
Gross & Fine Motor Skills through Music, Art and/or Movement
Spray the flowers or grass outside.
Make balls from tissue paper and glue them onto a flower coloring sheet from online. The craft above is from Buggy and Buddy.
Spanish:
All About Me Part 2 – Body Parts & Senses:
Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes – We watched and sang the Spanish Version of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes you can find that here. Our kids loved watching this free video especially when they did it really fast.
I Have…. Who Has? Body Parts Game – This was so fun and they can’t wait to play again. It’s actually an English version but since she uses pictures I just had my kids say it all in Spanish: Yo tengo… Quien Tiene…? I found it on Teachers Pay Teachers for only $1.50 so I bought it because it was so cute and cheap. It was harder for my Mateo to follow along so he helped me.
Roll A Monster Game – I actually made this for us to play and the kids loved it. Hopefully, in the near future I’ll post it on here so you can download the printable for FREE.
Fun Snacks:
Flower Open hummus sandwich go here for the details! I gave them a bowl to dip the other veggies in the hummus and they devoured it!
Flower Pot Pudding Cups – The “dirt” is chocolate pudding. I made the fruit on the sticks to look like the flowers.
