With the weather being so dreary I needed to pull out this snack I made at the beginning of the school year and share it with you because it’s so cheery and bright and it reminds me of all things spring.
Back when I was doing Mommy & Me Preschool post we did a lesson on flowers and gardening. By the way, I’m still doing Mommy & Me preschool at home with my son but unfortunately I can’t keep up with the posting articles. Also, stopping to take pictures was too stressful because I would always remember after we were done with the activity.
You can incorporate this snack to your F is for flower lesson or a gardening lesson. Because it’s simple and no equipment is required you can totally make this at school with the kids if you’re a teacher. Just have the kids bring in a different chopped veggie or fruit and they can get creative in making their flowers.
It’s a fun and healthy snack, it’s packed with fruits, veggies and protein from the hummus. After my boys were done devouring their cute little flower they asked for the bowl of hummus and enjoyed the rest of he veggies I had cut up. Hummus is the best food to get kids to eat their veggies.
Fun and Healthy Food: Open Flower Hummus Sandwich
ingredients
- hummus – this is our favorite recipe here
- 1 piece of wheat bread
- strawberries
- grapes
- cucumber
- broccoli
- raisins
- skewer
1. You’ll need to spread some hummus onto your piece of bread.
2. Then begin by applying all of the other fruits and veggies to create your master piece. Have fun with it and improvise if you don’t have a specific ingredient. I used a piece of carrot for the lips but you can use a strawberry or tomato.
3. Run the grapes through the skewer for the stem and add the leaf and grass and your done!
