DIY Trick or Treat Bags

Contributing Writer: Laurel MacDougall from Ducks in a Row Although my kids LOVE carrying the plastic pumpkins to collect candy in every Halloween, this year I thought it was time for an upgrade.  I saw this awesome vinyl polka dot at Ikea and knew right away that I was going to make trick or treat bags with them.  Funny thing is, I was stopped at least 3 times from people loving the fabric but wondering what I was going to do.  When I told them, they told me I was a genius!  Who doesn't love ... continue reading...

Mac and Cheese Muffins

Contributing Writer: Heather Kinnaird at the French Press With the school year under way, we are busy. Really busy. Work, kids, homework, sports... The week is a blur. Low-Fat Caramel Fruit Dip

We had a back to school party with lots of yummy desserts but nothing on the table was close to healthy.  I ran inside the house quickly chopped up some apples and made up this concoction that is not entirely healthy but it is low in fat compared to all of the caramel fruit dip recipes out there that use heavy cream or cream cheese.  And it's really good! I love to serve this as an after school snack for the kiddos, though I try not to do this too much because they love fruit in it's purest ... continue reading...

Kid Friendly Halloween Party Ideas

The first time we took our son trick or treating he was petrified. The neighborhood we lived in, went all out with their gory Halloween decor and I think he was scarred for life.  Since that experience we decided to start a tradition in our family, to host a Halloween/Harvest Party in our home for our friends. In the past I have tried to get creative in my decorating and crafts, by coming up with some kid friendly Halloween fun ideas and staying away from bloody body parts and other scary ... continue reading...
