DIY Home Decor: Chalkboard from a Cabinet Door

May 2, 2013 by Inspired by Family Mag

I'm loving my repurposed cabinet door chalkboard! We rent a house, so I thought I would never have the opportunity to work with old cabinets. I have no need to replace cabinets in a house that's not mine, right. Well, in our neighborhood someone put cabinet doors out by the trash and I snatched them up.  I realized I was finally going to be able to make my "Message Center" that I have been dying for. I asked the owner if I could take a few of the old cabinets. I will later share with you, … [Read more...]

Skateboard Big Boy Bedroom: Sneak Peek

April 26, 2013 by Inspired by Family Mag

Putting this "Skateboard" big boy bedroom together for my son has been bittersweet.  Though all my home projects are for our whole family, it has been fun to work on a project specifically for my oldest. I was so excited for him to arrive from school to see the beginning stages of his new room. Just as I thought, he loved it! It's been sad because I have enjoyed listening in to their conversations at night as all three of them rambled about their day. Also, the fact that my little boy is no … [Read more...]

DIY Play Tent Fort {no-sew}

April 25, 2013 by Inspired by Family Mag

I must admit I enjoyed our little fort as much as the kids. This play tent is super easy to make, to store and to put up inside the house or outside. Around Fall last year, I started a little activity with our boys when they got home from school.  I really want to start this up again now that the weather is nice. Our Falls can be pretty chilly because of the rain so some days I would just put this up inside our living room and hang it from the ceiling. We would have a special hang out time!  … [Read more...]

DIY Mexican Folk Art Bowls with Permanent Markers

April 14, 2013 by Inspired by Family Mag

I love celebrating my beautiful country as we approach Cinco de Mayo!  One of the things I enjoy about traveling to other countries is their going to the market and enjoying their "artesanías", their folk art. Mexico’s artesanía tradition is a blend of indigenous and European techniques and designs. Some are trained artist others have been past down the skill from one generation to the next.  I love the decorative details and blend of bright colors that are used.  I have wanted some cute … [Read more...]

Easy DIY Home Decor Project: Butterfly Art

April 5, 2013 by Inspired by Family Mag

This DIY Butterfly Art is the easiest home decor item you will ever make.  Are you afraid of decorating with panache? I love decorating with fun bright colors but sometimes my conservative self takes over and I end up with neutral colors in my home.  I have slowly but surely learned how to add pop of color to my more subdued home decor. Simple ways to do this is by accessorizing with a pop of color. For example, in my living room I have this frame over the mantle and a vase the same color. That … [Read more...]
