Mexican Pizza Sticks

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Hunt’s Tomato Sauce and Latina Bloggers Connect.

Mexican Pizza Sticks

IMG_1222

I’ve never actually had Mexican style pizza until today.  So before making it, I went online searching for some ideas and found lots of variations.  Some used salsa base pizza sauce others use the traditional tomato base pizza sauce.  They all sounded yummy so we decided to experiment with our own ingredients and I went with more of what mi mami would have done in the kitchen.

Many authentic Hispanic dishes call for the use of tomatoes, and Hispanic women including mi mama used fresh, natural, quality ingredients when she cooked for us. I don’t remember a meal that didn’t have tomatoes and onions. Sometimes I don’t’ have the time to roast tomatoes over the comal like my mom did so I’ve been known to substitute it for a can of Hunt’s fire roasted diced tomatoes but that’s our little secret. Don’t tell anyone.

sauce

I decided to go with a tomato base sauce with a Mexican twist and it was delicious! My kids had it for lunch and loved it! This would also make an easy party appetizer.

Mexican Pizza Sticks

  • Cooked ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • cilantro
  • refried beans
  • Hunts tomato sauce
  • taco seasoning
  • pre-made pizza bread dough
  • lettuce
  • olives
  • 1 diced tomato
  • monterrey jack and cheddar cheese shredded

1. Pour Hunt’s tomato sauce in a medium sauce pan and heat it over a low-medium heat.  Add your diced tomatoes, I like to add fresh ingredients to my canned ingredients.

2. Take your taco seasoning and pour into your tomato sauce.

3.  Add your cooked ground beef to the tomato sauce.

4. Now take your pre-made pizza bread dough and cover it with refried beans. This will be your first layer.

5. Then add your meat and tomato sauce.

6. Then add your shredded cheese.

7. Garnish with olives, cilantro, onions and lettuce.

8. Sprinkle more cheese over it. Then cut it into thin slices so they look like sticks.

Bake at 350 following the directions on your pre-made pizza bread dough.
